Thomas P. Clement focuses his practice primarily in the areas of criminal law on both the state and federal level, drivers license appeals and restoration and family law. In the area of criminal law, he has a great deal of experience having handled all manners of cases from the most serious charges to minor misdemeanors. Tom has experience in handling high profile criminal cases having most recently won acquittals in the trials of the former mayor of Mason and his father who were charged with Interfering with a Police Investigation and Assault and Battery respectively. Tom has also concentrated much of his criminal practice on white collar crimes including embezzlement and criminal violations of the construction lien act to name a few.
Tom has a strong academic background having graduated from the Michigan State University College of Law. While at MSU, Tom was a 4 term member of the Moot Court Board and captained the Fordham University Securities Law team which was awarded best brief and placed as runner up overall. Tom received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University where he double majored in political science and criminal justice.
Previously Tom served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Eaton County, Michigan. Following his service as a prosecutor, Tom was a partner and served on the Board of Directors at The Reynolds Law Firm, P.C.
Tom is also an adjunct faculty member at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He teaches Advanced Problems in Evidence. The course is designed to put a practical application to the evidentiary rules.
Tom is a member of the State Bar of Michigan Criminal Law Section, the American Bar Association, the Ingham County Bar Association, the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan and the American Inns of Court. He is also involved in the community serving as an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in East Lansing, Michigan and President of the Catholic Lawyers Guild.
Tom is licensed to practice in all Michigan courts along with the United States District Court for the both the Eastern and Western District of Michigan.
